Not to brag, but Mr. Skin is a smart guy. He can usually piece together a few facts about the special ladies featured here on Skin Central based on their film resume. But Jennifer Ryan has him perplexed. In her first on-screen role, she plays a stripper in the movie The Waterdance (1992). It stars Eric Stoltz, Helen Hunt, Wesley Snipes, and some other familiar faces, and it picked up some film festival awards, including a couple from Sundance. In other words, it was a pretty good movie, not a B flick or a campy comedy. And Jennifer? She was topless, with tiny, sparkly bottoms worthy of a stripper. And she’s a really, really good stripper, with all the moves and everything. She swings around the pole, shakes her hips and other parts, and struts on the stage like she owns it. So Mr. Skin might think, “Hmmm… maybe she’s a stripper in real life.” But then. In her second and only other role, she plays Martha Manderston in an episode of Doctor Finlay, a PBS Masterpiece Theatre period piece. The first project was filmed in Los Angeles, the second was filmed in Scotland. With two such differing parts and projects, and such a good-girl common name, Mr. Skin has to wonder if her credits have been mixed up? Maybe there are two Jennifer Ryans? While Mr. Skin is happy to watch her stripper part on The Waterdance on repeat to get a good identifying look at the sizzling scene-stealer, he’s less inclined to seek out and watch the Masterpiece Theatre thing for comparison. If there are two Jennifers, he has a preference.
